Birthdays – The Best Time To Make Healthy Resolutions. And Run!

Where has the year gone? Just the other day we ushered in a new year. In the blink of an eye, flash of events we are in November. Again. November happens to be my birthday month. The actual date 13th. I can see you eagerly waiting for ‘the bash’ details … read on I may or may not disappoint.

No. I am not yet retiring which follows, I am not yet 30 … I do not take it for granted that I have lived to see another birthday. In the world we live in, we are not even guaranteed to go back home in the evening. It is by the grace of God that we are able.

The obituaries on the paper feature many young guys. Guys who if they could have had just a few more years would have done so much for their communities and nation as a whole. However due to circumstances, and yes, some avoidable, they are not with us. The biggest threat to the youth is lifestyle related diseases. With people having disposable income, they use the ‘too busy’ excuse to eat anything and everything they come across. Diseases the old (and wiser) counter through a good diet is sweeping the young generation away. I want to see my next birthday and I am sure you want the same as well. How about you start by eating healthy? Exercising? Thinking about those who love you in all you do? I have chosen to take the organic path. By going organic, I am no only guaranteed of quality food but my visits to the hospital will sharply decrease. Yes I know, nothing to scare you into eating healthy than the tick of the age clock!

Last year we planted seedlings at the Nairobi National park. This year, things will be slightly different. I will be taking part in the Santa Fun Run event on December 7th 2014. The run is in support of a great cause. A child’s first aid. Accidents happen all the time. It is a way of life, especially in growing children. How we handle the minutes after the accident is what determines the damage done. Kids in their young age and curious state may be at the wrong place at the wrong time. They are explorers and best exploration to a child is through their mouth. Some things are not meant for consumption. A child’s caregiver, in case of such accidents will most likely panic. Others call parents or guardians who may not be within close proximity. If no one intervenes the child may die. You can see why this cause is so important in saving the next generation.

I will be Santa for a day and help raise funds for a child’s first aid. A noble cause which will go a long way in securing the future of the little ones. You can join me, be part of my team and hopefully we will win the cash prize or that holiday that is up for grabs. That would really be the best Post-Birthday, Pre-Christmas gift!

Think about it, do something about it. Let’s get our fun and running shoes on together.

To many more years * cheers *.
